At the start of the Curse of Chalion, the Heir of Ibra is the Fox of Ibra's eldest son. The Heir has been in rebellion against his father on and off for years, with Orico inevitably picking the wrong side to support. The Heir's most recent rebellion was raised in South Ibra with the support of Darthaca. Worried that the Fox may chose his younger brother to replace him, the Heir arranges to have Bergon dy Ibra kidnapped and sold into slavery. When the crime comes to light, the Fox demands the Heir's abject surrender. Instead, the Heir dies abruptly of coughing sickness. Royse Bergon becomes the new heir of Ibra.
